19 September 2013 Thursday - Pompeii

After the long, grueling flight to Naples, Italy, Kathy, Karen and I dragged our luggage from the airport to the train station, which was a couple blocks away.

My friend Fabio said that Naples is a dangerous place, so we were concerned about muggers and thieves, but we didn't have any problems. We walked fast.

When we got to the train station, we purchased tickets, and got on a train. Some parts of Naples looked a little scary, even from the train. We didn't have any problems though. We had to transfer trains, and eventually made our way to the “Circumvesuvial” train, which basically circumnavigates Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that destroyed the ancient city of Pompeii. The train took us to the Pompeii archaeology site, then we walked down a long hill from the train stop to the hotel: We're currently staying at the Vittoria hotel which is located just outside the gates of the archaeology site.

We didn't plan any touring today, because we knew we'd be tired and jet-lagged. We just basically dragged our luggage to the hotel, checked in, then went to dinner. We found a restaurant outside the hotel, and just ate there. Then we went to bed. Long day. But hey, tomorrow we'll see the ruins of Pompeii!
